Sunset vs Oat: Which Resting Beach Face Sweatshirt Should You Choose?

Two colours. Same slogan. Same organic cotton. Same hand screen-printing in Hastings. Very different vibes. If you are trying to decide between the Resting Beach Face Sweatshirt in Sunset and the one in Oat, here is the honest breakdown.
The short version
Choose Sunset if you like warm-tone wardrobes, you tend to wear rust, terracotta, deep coral or dusty pink already, or you want a sweatshirt that reads as a statement piece the moment you pull it on.
Choose Oat if you already own a lot of neutrals, you like the sweatshirt to sit into your wardrobe without dominating it, or you want a piece that will work as easily under a leather jacket in October as it does over swimwear in July.
Both fit the same way, wash the same way, and last the same length of time. The choice is essentially a colour palette one.
Sunset in detail
Sunset is a warm, sun-worn orange. Not a bright orange. The tone is closer to a well-loved terracotta plant pot or the underside of a sky at 8pm in August. The lettering is in a soft cream that makes the slogan sit clearly on the fabric without shouting.
It is the sweatshirt that people notice. Not in a look-at-me way, but in a "that colour looks good on you" way. Warm skin tones and warm hair colours work particularly well with it. Cooler complexions tend to reach for the Oat.
Best worn with: cream linen trousers, faded blue denim, navy skirts, tan leather sandals, gold jewellery. Avoid pairing with cool blush pinks or grey, it can start to look muddy.
Oat in detail
Oat is a soft, milky cream. Not stark white. The undertone is warm rather than blue, which means it plays well with the rust lettering and does not look clinical. The lettering is in the same rust that features on the Resting Beach Face tee.
It is the more versatile of the two. It pairs with denim, linen, sand, black, navy, olive, dusty pink, sage. It disappears into a neutral wardrobe as easily as it stands out from a busy one. If you tend to reach for cream, ecru, taupe or sand, you will wear this one two days a week from now until October.
Best worn with: straight-leg denim, khaki or olive shorts, black wide-leg trousers, brown or tan boots, dainty gold jewellery. Also excellent layered under a navy or camel coat in autumn.
Fit and sizing
Both are the same oversized cut. Drop shoulder, roomy through the body, hits just below the hip on most people. Sized to be worn loose. If you are between sizes, take the smaller one. If you like properly oversized styling, take your usual.
Common questions we get on fit:
- "Will it shrink?" No, if you follow the care label. Cold wash, gentle spin, dry flat. If you tumble dry it hot, it will lose about half a centimetre in each direction. Do not tumble dry it hot.
- "Is it true to size?" Yes. The XS is a small oversized fit; the XL is a very oversized fit.
- "Does the print crack?" Not if it is looked after. Hand screen-printed lettering on organic cotton is designed to age with the fabric. Our team members who bought theirs when we first released the sweatshirt have worn them weekly for a year without cracking.
Care and longevity
Both sweatshirts are hand screen-printed on Earth Positive organic cotton. Both wash on cold at 30 degrees, gentle spin, no fabric softener, dry flat or line dry. Iron inside out if you are pressing the front.
Wear them once, air them twice, wash them on the third wear. This is a piece that ages beautifully. Our team members who bought theirs in 2023 are still wearing them, and they look better now than they did new.
The verdict
If you already know your wardrobe leans warm, buy the Sunset. It will become a favourite within a week. If your wardrobe leans neutral or cool, buy the Oat. It will slot in without asking anything of you, and you will wear it three times as often as you expect.
If you cannot decide, buy the Oat first. It is the safer starter piece and it works with more of what most people own. The Sunset is easy to add later, and many customers buy both once they have worn one for a season.
